Respondent-Driven Sampling: a Sampling Method for Hard-to-Reach Populations and Beyond

چکیده
Abstract Purpose of Review We provided an overview sampling methods for hard-to-reach populations and guidance on implementing one the most popular approaches: respondent-driven (RDS). Recent Findings Limitations related to generating a frame marginalized can make them “hard-to-reach” when conducting population health research. Data analyzed from non-probability-based or convenience samples may produce estimates that are biased not generalizable target population. In RDS time-location (TLS), factors influence inclusion be estimated accounted in effort generate representative samples. is particularly equipped reach hidden members populations. Summary TLS, RDS, combination provide rigorous method identify recruit more characteristics. Researchers interested should expand their toolkits include these methods.

Comparison of sampling methods for hard-to-reach francophone populations: yield and adequacy of advertisement and respondent-driven sampling
BACKGROUND Francophones who live outside the primarily French-speaking province of Quebec, Canada, risk being excluded from research by lack of a sampling frame. We examined the adequacy of random sampling, advertising, and respondent-driven sampling for recruitment of francophones for survey research. METHODS We recruited francophones residing in the city of Calgary, Alberta, through adverti...
متن کاملSampling hard to reach populations.
Studies on 'hidden populations', such as homeless people, prostitutes and drug addicts, raise a number of specific methodological questions usually absent from research involving known populations and less sensitive subjects. This paper examines the advantages and limitations of nonrandom methods of data collection such as snowball sampling. It reviews the currently available literature on samp...
متن کاملA venue-based method for sampling hard-to-reach populations.
Constructing scientifically sound samples of hard-to-reach populations, also known as hidden populations, is a challenge for many research projects. Traditional sample survey methods, such as random sampling from telephone or mailing lists, can yield low numbers of eligible respondents while non-probability sampling introduces unknown biases. The authors describe a venue-based application of ti...

متن کاملrespondent driven sampling: a new approach to sampling rare and hidden diseases
background : a detailed study of hidden and hard to reach populations in order to identify their characteristics is essential because they endanger the health of the society by their dangerous behaviors. however, sampling in these populations through conventional sampling methods is impossible due to reasons such as being hidden and lacking a precise frame. methods: in this article, applicable ...
